Brush Cutter Safety
Any powered garden tool should be treated with respect. MACHINES CAN BE DANGEROUS. Make sure you are familiar with the garden tool you are using and the safety guidelines for the job you are tackling.
Protecting the Operator
· Clothing is your basic protection. Wear long trousers and close fitting clothes. You don't want baggy clothing getting caught in any moving part.
· Tie back long hair, again make sure there is nothing that can get caught in a moving part of the machine.
· Shoes. Always wear sturdy supportive footwear, which has plenty of grip.
· Eyes. Brush cutters can throw up dirt, stones and twigs. Eye protection is a MUST. Safety goggles or face screens should be warn at all times.
· Noise. If you are operating a brush cutter for any length of time it is a good idea to use earmuffs or earplugs.
· Try and use a brush cutter with anti vibration components. · If a harness is worn make sure it is adjusted right for you, be comfortable.
· ALWAYS switch off the engine when making adjustments to the machine.
Before use
· Read the operators manual so you are familiar with the brush cutter.

Re-fuelling safety

· Always stand on the proper side of the brush cutter. On a curved shaft unit, the line head rotation is clockwise so cut to the left. On a straight shaft unit the line head rotation is counter clockwise so cut on the right side. Always check you manual.
· Bring the engine to operating speed before trying to cut.
· Do not run the engine faster than needed to cut the task in hand.
· Return the engine to idle when not cutting
· ALWAYS switch off when you try to unclog the brush cutter. Avoid placing hands near the blades, use a stick to unclog.
After Use
· Leave the engine on idle so it may cool down before finally switching off.
