Tips for trimmers and brush cutter use.
Before using a trimmer or brush cutter, make sure you are familiar with the manual, and are confident in completing the particular garden job. For safety, also remember that any rotating cutting tools can throw objects or cut the operator. Trimmers and brush cutters can be equally as dangerous.A/ Make sure you read through, understand, and adhere to instructions in the brush cutter manufacturer's operating manual.
B/ Hold the brush cutter firmly with both hands.
C/ Check that the blades or cord coil is adjusted properly and is tight.
D/ Before brush cutter use be sure that the throttle lever springs back to idle position.
E/ Replace bent, warped, damaged or dull cutting apparatus.
F/ Select a brush cutter with anti-vibration components. If you are using this for jobs in the larger home garden, you will be thankful you chose the right brush cutter.
The correct clothing for brush cutter use
A/ Sturdy and well-fitting overalls, jeans or long pants.
B/ Safety goggles, or face screen and safety glasses. If you are using these items for large jobs hearing protection (muffs or plugs) could also be useful.
C/ You can quite easily obtain heavy-duty, non-slip gloves.

Checklist for using grass trimmers and brush cutters
A/ Keep people (especially children) away from starting and brush cutter operating areas.
B/ Check area for stones, glass, metal and debris. Clear before brush cutter use.
C/ If using an electric grass trimmer, know where the cable is at all times. F/ Start the brush cutter or trimmer on firm ground or other solid surfaces in an open area.
D/ Refuel the engine before starting work. The brush cutter engine needs to be cool to do this. If refuelling is required before the job is completed, make sure you wait for the engine to cool. Fuel will often splash on to the hot engine.
E/ Replace or tighten all loose or damaged parts or guards. This is particularly important for high powered brush cutters which can take metal blades.
F/ Unless you adjust the harness to suit the working position it will become uncomfortable very quickly.
G/ Use a brush cutter at ground level only.
H/ Shut off brush cutter engine before cleaning out clogged or stuck cutter.
I/ Stop the engine before putting the brush cutter or trimmer down.
J/ Disconnect the spark plug when the equipment is left unattended.
K/ Secure cutter to prevent fuel spillage and damage during transport.
Final pointers for brush cutter and trimmer use.
A/ Do not leave the brush cutter running tool unattended.
B/ Do not wear short trousers or short sleeves whilst operating.
C/ Do not use metal blades in stony areas.
D/ Do not overreach. Ensure proper footing and balance at all times.
E/ Do not repair damaged attachments - discard them.
Your brush cutter or trimmer will give you the finish in your garden you are looking for. Always consider safety.
