Considerations when buying a Hedge cutter
Double-sided hedge cutters
The most common type of hedge cutter, which is designed for clipping hedges up to chest height. A double-sided hedge cutter should have an adjustable rear handle. This provides increased flexibility and better ergonomics when trimming the side of hedges. When in use you should keep the hedge cutter's centre of gravity as close to the body as possible to reduce strain on the arms, shoulders and back. The machine should have some sort of anti-vibration system to further assist comfortable operating. The double-sided hedge cutter is the most suitable for the shaping of hedges.
Single-sided hedge cutters
Designed especially for straight sections of hedge. The design making it very easy to cut straight. With cutting teeth on only one side of the bar, a longer bar can be employed without negatively impacting on the weight of the machine. Having a longer blade will then speed up the time taken to trim large hedges. The centre of gravity is also closer to the body, which maximises comfort while cutting the hedge. It is also possible to have a collector for clippings.
Pole hedge trimmers
With a pole hedge cutter you can cut high hedges without the need for a ladder. Likewise the cutting of low hedges can be a lot more comfortable. The adjustable cutting bar increases flexibility and helps the operator maintain a more comfortable posture when in use. The ability to angle the cutting bar improves your reach and speed. The engine is positioned to counter balance the cutting head for comfort.
You should keep in mind that:
· The hedge cutter should have an anti-vibration system for maximum comfort.
· The cutter bar should be able to be tuned. This aids close quarter cutting, near walls for example
