Livestock Gardens
Keeping any form of livestock requires careful consideration. You must ensure that your garden or plot of land will adequately meet the needs of the animals you are planning to keep.
There are many choices, some of the more usual are chickens, hens, goats, and rabbits. The following brief guides are design to help get an understanding of the basic upkeep and care requirements for your livestock gardening plans.
You should also seek professional advice from suppliers in your local area, they will be able to help you with any specific questions that you may have.
Keeping a Pony
If you have a plot of land that is of a substantial size, you may consider keeping a pony or a donkey. You should keep in mind that these animals will live for a long time and will require long-term maintenance to care for.
This brief guide cannot cover all the things that you need to know about successfully keeping Ponies or Donkeys, and you should seek professional advice, and read up about the subject, before you decide to purchase anything.
Ideally you should have at least an acre of well fenced, well drained and sheltered grazing land. A suitable shelter / stable is another essential requirement. Clean fresh drinking water should be made available on a permanent basis.
Ponies and Donkeys require company, this can either be another pony or donkey, or often people will put goats or sheep in the same field. A regularly ridden pony can cope on its own if necessary, as there will be more communication and routine to keep them occupied.
